Dog Genius is a documental of National Geografhics that show some interesting things:
Wolves are the ancestors of the dogs about 14 millions years ago. They can listen to forty times the distance to us.
In 1956, Russians crossbread foxes less agressive, and in each generation of foxes, changed its physical features and its character, becoming more friendly as a dog.
In a test with a monkey and two inverted cups, someone pointed with a finger a inverted cup with food inside, but the monkey failed to choose the cup that had no food inside. The same test but this time with a dog, Mabel, someone pointed to the inverted cup with food and she was right. Then did the same test but this time someone pointed the cup with the eyes, and Mabel hit again. This test was done it to know if the dogs can interpret human signs. The diferent results of the monkeys and dogs is because the dogs have been genetically modified to interact with us unlike monkeys.
Intelligence in dogs is measure in the hability to fit in the environment. Dogs have 10 times more capacity of smell things that us, because his olfactory lobule is bigger than ours. They sniff in layers, this means that they smell each things separately. His nose are 100 times more sensitive that ours. Mabel was a Beagle that could smell her owner from a long distances. Sophie was a Bloodhound that could track a person over long distances just smelling something from this person.
In Behavior Animal class, the teacher talked about the positive reinforcement in dogs. When the animal does something good, the animal win something like food. In this documental, Guinnes was a dog (the dog of the picture on top)that when choosing between two picture with his nose on the screen, he win food if the picture was the correct answer, but if it was incorrect, the screen will turn red, and don´t will win prize. In this way, they have to link the next picture with the past picture to choose the correct picture and win a prize.
I learned that dogs are amazing! They can learn words, do extraordinary things as Donnie, a Dobermann that make different shapes or triangles with their toys, among other things. I think that we obervalue ours faithful companions, we can learn a lot of thing of they, and discover other things.
Bye!
